Who is in your group?
Our groups are made up of individuals who, whatever their background, share a common love of the outdoors and a joy in discovery of people and places, of history and culture and who have dreamed of taking a day tour, weekend or multi day excursion or trek in Ireland. Wherever they are from, they are all curious to find out what’s around the next corner.
How do I plan my trip?
TrekkingTruTime will be with you every step of the way …even before you take your first step. Martin, Cormac and their team will work closely with all parties in advance of each trip so they are well versed, well prepared and well informed. Once booked, parties will be sent a detailed itinerary well in advance of their trip to Ireland and each party will have an advance orientation call. We want to ensure your trip with us is memorable for all the right reasons. To this end we will engage with you in relation to medications and medical history as part of our communications.
What about Insurance?
TrekkingTruTime encourages all participants to have adequate insurance. For our hiking weekend and multi day walking events proof of insurance cover must be provided in advance of departure. In case a trip has to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances or in the unlikely event you become ill or injured you’ll have the peace of mind that your investment is insured and that more importantly traveler assistance and support will be available should you need it. TrekkingTruTime does not accept responsibility for loss, damage to your luggage, or any illness/injury. We can not accept responsibility for any loss or damages beyond our control.
How much notice do you need for a reservation?
Typically we expect participants booking for multi day excursions and trekking holidays to book a few months in advance as we only offer a select number of trips and places fill quickly. It also, and more importantly, allows us time to develop relationships with our clients well in advance and so they are fully prepared and informed and we are aligned on their expectations.
For those wishing to partake in a weekend or day tour, contact us to check availability. The more notice we have the better your chances of joining us.
What are the booking policies?
For multi day excursions and trekking holidays we charge 20% of the cost at the time of booking with the balance to be paid 6 weeks in advance of the trip date. For Day Tours and Weekend Specials we charge the full fee once booking is confirmed.
What is the cancellation policy?
For multi day excursions and trekking options if you cancel at least 8 weeks in advance of your guided hike date we refund your deposit in full, minus any administrative expenses. If you cancel at least 4 weeks in advance we refund 75% of your deposit. If you cancel less than 4 weeks in advance of your trip we retain your deposit. If you have an unavoidable emergency we will try and work with you as best we can or offer an alternate date.
How fit do I need to be?
Trekking Tru Time will tailor hikes and routes to clients abilities. For multi day walking trips and particularly our Trekking Tru Ireland, Walking to Santiago and Connemara Uncovered options it is it is expected that clients have prior hiking/walking experience and are fit enough to enjoy each day’s excursion. Of course the best training for hiking or walking is hiking or walking, so getting out well in advance and arriving in well worn, comfortable and reliable gear with a reasonable degree of fitness will ensure you are best prepared to savor and enjoy your days in the hills and valleys and a “well-earned pint” each night.
What’s a typical day?
This depends on the type of trip you book and is why we ask you to contact us before you book so that we can discuss this with you. A typical day for our Trekking/Walking holidays and Multi day treks will include a hearty breakfast followed by a 4-6 hours of trekking through the landscape. On average we will be out walking between 10.30-4.30 most days. This gives the group time in the am to “rise and shine” and pack (if moving to a different hotel) and also time in evening to come back and shower and change for relaxing evening to include dinner and visit to local pub(s) / Other.
What do I carry each day?
For most Trekking Tru Time events all you need each day is a simple lightweight pack with your camera, rain gear, lunch and other desirables. Details of what you require is dealt with during our communications prior to your arrival.
What is the weather generally like?
The weather in Ireland is extremely changeable from day to day. In Ireland you’ll see many different microclimates, which are all a byproduct of the warm air coming off the Atlantic. The summer days are long with night falling well after 10pm. Having good waterproof gear and sturdy water repellant boots is important as are sunglasses and sun cream and you will need them all. As ever, when hiking anywhere, it is important to be able to layer up or layer down when needed for maximum comfort.
Do you cancel if the weather is bad?
No – our trips run whatever the weather! If the weather is too bad or dangerous then we will alter the program and take an alternative lower level walk or other but we will still get you out to some great places and stunning scenery. We might also of course get to the pub a bit earlier that day…
